There is a moment in early spring when the first leaves unfurl and the world shifts from brown and grey to something alive. That exact shade of new foliage — bright, fresh, with yellow sunlight practically baked into it — is what DMC 3347 captures. Medium Yellow Green is the sound of birdsong translated into thread.

Unlike the deeper, cooler greens in the DMC range, 3347 has a pronounced warm lean. The yellow component in its name is real and visible. Compare it to DMC 3346 (Hunter Green), which sits just one step darker in the same family, and the difference is clear: 3346 is a proper dark foliage green, while 3347 brings light and warmth. Step to the lighter end with DMC 3348 (Light Yellow Green) and you get the pale, almost lime quality of brand-new leaves in direct sun.

This trio — 3346, 3347, 3348 — forms one of the most naturalistic foliage gradients in cross stitch. If you are stitching a landscape, a garden scene, or a detailed botanical piece, these three shades together create believable living greenery. 3347 sits in the middle, doing the heavy lifting as the main leaf color for sunlit areas.

Beyond foliage, this shade appears in designs featuring meadows, rolling hills, and pastoral scenes. It is the green of grass in summer when the sun hits at a low angle, warm and golden-tinged. Country cottage samplers, farm scenes, and English garden designs all rely on yellow-greens like 3347 for that sun-drenched quality.

A useful technique for naturalistic stitching: blend 3347 with DMC 3346 by alternating stitches in a scattered pattern rather than using solid blocks of each. This creates a dappled effect that mimics how light actually falls on foliage — some areas warmer, some deeper, without hard boundaries between them.

Note that 3347 has one of the weaker conversion profiles in this batch — every cross-brand match is rated "close" rather than exact. This is common with yellow-greens, which occupy a tricky spot on the color wheel where small shifts in the yellow-to-green ratio dramatically change the perceived color. More on that below.
