Sullivans 45053 is rated as approximate for DMC 310 Black, and the distinction matters in practice. Some stitchers report that Sullivans' black can appear very slightly warmer — almost a hair toward dark charcoal — compared to DMC 310's cooler, truer black. On a standalone project this warmth difference is essentially invisible. But avoid mixing Sullivans 45053 with DMC 310 in the same piece, as the slight color difference can become apparent where the two brands meet, particularly in backstitch outlines adjacent to cross-stitch fill areas.
