Sullivans variegated threads sometimes have shorter color repeat segments than DMC, which can create a busier, more mottled appearance rather than the gentle flowing drift of the original. The gray-to-brown color family is right and the overall palette impression is preserved, but the rhythm of the changes may differ in ways that are noticeable across larger fill areas. For smaller motifs — a bird's speckled wing, a knot in a wood texture, a pebble in a path — this is rarely an issue and the difference is invisible at viewing distance. For large background fills like stone walls or aged plaster, stitch a test section using your planned technique first to confirm the texture reads as you expect.
