Cosmo 2507 is listed as close for DMC 309. For very large fill areas where any variation would be noticeable, the exact-match Anchor and Madeira alternatives are preferable. For accent and shadow uses where DMC 309 appears in relatively small quantities — the interior shadows of a rose bloom, the deep fold of a fuchsia petal — close matches are generally fine. Cosmo's softer thread construction produces slightly flatter stitches, which in deep shadow roles can actually enhance the sense of depth and recession in floral rendering.
