Madeira 2301 is close-rated rather than exact for DMC 977 — one of the less common situations where Madeira's conversion falls below the exact threshold. Some stitchers report that Madeira's 2301 reads slightly warmer or slightly different in value than the DMC original. Since DMC 977 is frequently used as a precisely positioned step in a shading progression, this difference may be more perceptible than it would be for a standalone color.
