Anchor 307 is rated close for DMC 940 Dark Old Gold, and the close rating reflects a real difference: Anchor 307 tends to run lighter and slightly brighter than DMC 940's deeper, more muted old-gold character. For designs where 940 serves as the weighty, antiqued gold component — heraldic work, Celtic knotwork, harvest samplers — the Anchor version may feel insufficiently dark or too clean. Testing Anchor 309 as an alternative to 307 is worth trying if 307 reads too bright in context.
