DMC 816 to Anchor: Thread Conversion

Anchor 20 is the standard equivalent for DMC 816 Garnet, with a close rather than exact rating, and most stitchers who've worked with both describe the Anchor version as slightly more blue-purple in undertone compared to DMC's warmer cast. In large filled areas this shows up as a color temperature shift — Anchor 20 reads marginally cooler and more formal, DMC 816 marginally warmer and more jewel-like. For most projects either works beautifully, but avoid using both brands for garnet-family reds within the same piece, as the temperature difference becomes visible in direct comparison.
