DMC 114 to Sullivans: Thread Conversion

Sullivans 45225 provides a close match in the warm golden-yellow variegated range, with the goldenrod character generally preserved. As with other Sullivans variegated threads, the color segments may be shorter than DMC's, producing more frequent transitions per inch of stitching — the golden and amber tones alternate more rapidly. For the goldenrod thread's most distinctive use as a metallic gold substitute — where you want the light-catching variation to be visible, active, and convincing as an alternative to metallic thread — this higher frequency of transitions can actually be an advantage, as it more closely mimics the shimmering, constantly-changing reflectance of real gold surfaces. Test on both dark and light fabrics before committing, since DMC 114's behavior changes quite dramatically depending on the ground color: on dark navy or black, the thread appears dramatically different from how it reads on white.
